As Jock prepares for open heart surgery, the conflict between the Ewing brothers heightens as Bobby suspects J.R. of making business arrangements which could be based on the chance that their father will not survive the operation

Decidingto adopt a child without her husband's approval, Sue Ellen learns that the waiting period could be years so she tries to buy a "black market" baby instead. Sue Ellen, desperate to keep her illegal adoption a secret, unexpectedly meets Pamela while she visits a store to make purchases for the anticipated arrival of the new baby.
