The Intel 21145 Phoneline controller yields 1megabit per second (Mbps) making it compliant with the Home Phoneline Network Alliance specification. It adds a phoneline physical layer interface that supports home networking over existing residential voice-grade telephone lines, without affecting normal telephone usage. The built-in modem interface allows for simultaneous dial-up Internet access and phoneline networking through a single phone line connector. The controller fully complies with the Device Class Power Management requirements under the OnNow Architecture for computer98 and computer99.

Using one telephone line
  1. Connect the first telephone cable between the wall jack and the RJ-11 port on the adapter labeled WALL.
  2. Connect the second telephone cable between the MODEM/PHONE RJ-11 port on the adapter and the Line In RJ-11 port on the modem.
  3. Connect the telephone cable between the wall jack and the WALL RJ-11 port on the adapter for all other computers connecting to the network.

Note: A digital subscriber line (DSL) or G.Lite modem does not work through the adapter’s MODEM/PHONE port. If you have a DSL or G.Lite modem, connect it to the wall jack using a telephone line splitter.

Using two telephone lines

  1. Connect a telephone cable between the modem's Line In RJ-11 port and the wall jack for the first telephone line being used.
  2. Connect a telephone cable between the adapter's WALL RJ-11 port and the wall jack for the second telephone line for each computer to be connected to the network.

The pass-through RJ-11 MODEM/PHONE jack does not support a connection to a DSL modem. The frequency for DSL is up to 582 kilohertz (kHz). The filter cuts off at 115 kHz and does not let the DSL signal pass through.

Use the LED on the bracket of the AnyPoint adapter to troubleshoot network problems. This LED indicates network activity.
